Climate action
It's not an exaggeration to say that climate change will kill us all. It won't happen immediately, but most definitely in the long term. Climate change is the result of human actions. Driving a car; that contributes to climate change. How about burning a really small bonfire in your backyard? Yep that contributes to climate change too. There are even more actions that contribute, but these are just a few.
The SDG climate action is, in reality, a call to action. This call to action was attempting to help people understand that the climate is changing and it does affect everyone. It was attempting to have people take action against climate change .This SDG was trying to help people understand that they can make a difference and that their actions can change everything. As of April 9th 2018, 175 parties, or countries, had ratified the Paris agreement. Also on this date, 168 parties had communicated their first nationally determined contributions to the united nations framework convention on climate change. In addition to that 10 developing countries successfully completed and submitted their first iterations for their upcoming plans for responding to climate change.
Well if it's such a big issue, are there any countries taking action? There are many countries acting to reduce carbon emissions. According to a researcher from CNTraveler, Belgium is one country that since 1990 has reduced their carbon emission by 64 percent. Another country that has reduced carbon emissions significantly is Luxembourg. They have had a 4 percent drop in carbon emissions between 2016 and 2017. That may not seem like a lot,but once you compare that to the European union’s total carbon emission drop of .4 percent it is pretty significant.
How can people like me do something to help prevent climate change? I'm just one person. That’s a question that most people ask themselves regarding climate change. There are many things you can do to help. You can start by spreading awareness. There are a good amount of people out there that don't know or care about the dangers of climate change. You can help them understand by explaining to them the gravity of the situation. Let them know that climate change can cause serious damage to our communities and families if we don't work as a unit to overcome it. Another thing you can do, if possible, is to bike as opposed to driving. A lot of people drive not realizing that they are polluting the air with the carbon emissions from their car. For some it may be a challenge not to drive because they are traveling long distances, but if possible you can really make a difference through biking instead of driving. These are just a couple of many ways that you can help prevent climate change.
There are countries working towards the issue of climate change. Some are not but even without their help we can resolve unnatural climate change. Overall, climate change is a really huge issue. It will take some time to resolve as well. The real change starts with you.
