My Closed loop cycle redesign
In the last unit of our biomimicry class we were studying the uniqueness of fungi. Before we talked about design inspired by plants and animals but this third unit opened our eyes to a whole new world of possibilities using fungi. The main thing we were learning about relating to fungi was decomposition and what things can be decomposed. We then learned about linear design models for different products. The product that I chose was the classic plastic pen. I spent a good amount of time researching the materials used, where they came from, how they were distributed and other factors as well. After all of that, I came up with a redesign that uses a closed loop model for the production and manufacturing of the pen. Here is what I learned and what I did. Enjoy!
In conclusion, I learned a lot about fungi and decomposition, closed loop systems, and linear models too. This was a very fun unit to be apart of and I hope to teach to others what I have learned about. I know that I intend to change my way of deciding what goes in the garbage and I also want to think about where my products come from. I really hope you enjoyed my action project. And remember, live a sustainable lifestyle.
